Puppy and I: The Story of Childhood Pain

Wapangrenba Imchen

A painful story recollects I. Two decades passed, PUPPY. I named her. For some days, I have to wake up in the middle of the night to accompany her as she howls a lot, feeling isolated being away from her siblings. With the passing days, a beautiful bond was nurtured between me and my pet Puppy. Me? Aah, a loner boy, but Puppy, I recollect, changed my little world.

A year and a half passed, hmmm a dark day precede that torn me and my pets' little world. One fateful morning village council ordered to stop breeding dogs, and to which the defaulters would be penalized with Rs. 5000. As a little boy tried every possible way with the help of my mum to protect her but all shattered when one damning noon when I returned from school she was but missing. Big boys cry louder than others…

Two days later, the most tragic, miserable, disastrous what not to say when Puppy returned home Ah! But just like a dream as I held her in my arms crying with tears suddenly few guys appeared and snatched her away from me for eternity despite all the measures I took... and the reason? She was already sold out to them the other day. hmmm but somehow she escaped to bid farewell I guess... I completely collapsed and broken then… whom to blame? Hate? Complain?

The world is not fair and that story is just another side of life that we are not home yet, I guess!
