Outside our window, there is a small bird’s nest delicately hanging from a fragile branch, just beneath the edge of the roof. On rainy days, the water pours down from the rooftop so forcefully that the tender branches sway and shake violently. I often watch, anxious that the branch might break, that the nest might fall, and the tiny chicks would be lost, leaving the two little parent birds in grief.

I had been away for a few days. Returned late last night, and woke up early today with a strange mixture of weariness and curiosity - curious to see what had become of the birdies nesting outside my window. I always looked forward to them - a small, tender reminder that life goes on.
